Some days I struggle with the opening line. That day is today. Today is one of those random posts, which I think are sometimes better, especially since I can just throw up words and call it a day.
Yesterday I slept in until 5:30 (that’s gross that I consider that sleeping in), and headed to Crossfit Ad Finem with my friend Sara to take a free Crossfit class. Sara helped me set up a Blog & Tweet NH event at her Crossfit box in September, and for the past month+ ish, Sara, the box Coach Mat, and myself have been having random Crossfit conversations on Twitter.
I couldn’t wait until our event, so I headed to the box yesterday for the WOD.
It was only Sarah, Mat, another lady and myself at 6:30am, which was a sigh of relief since I didn’t have to feel like a complete newbie.
Sara and I started with a 400m warmup run outside, loosened up with 3 animal movements, and then got into the strength part, which included:
- 5 sets of 3: push presses (scheduled was the push jerk, but it was too advanced for me)
- 5 sets of 3 front squats
Then we got into the WOD, “Balls of Fury”, which included:
- 21-15-9 Wall Balls
- 21-15-9 MBC– (medicine ball cleans… I wrote that I was too lazy to google this, but that’s bad blogger etiquette)
I finished the WOD in 6:50, and I have to say, those 7 minutes gave me a better workout than I’ve gotten at the gym in a very long time.
Yesterday was a nice little intro to Crossfit and not intimidating at all. I loved how personable and funny Mat was, and am so excited to take my Elements classes, which start next Wednesday! As Mat said, I “drank the juice!” Uh oh!
I really didn’t want to run after work, but then Emily had to go and mention my running streak on her blog, so she guilted me into a run. Emily guesstimated my streak to be at 1052 days. Loved the credit, but today marked 544 straight days. Blend Jen I hope you didn’t read that. Unfortunately I acted like a running rookie, and demolished grapes and nut butter 15 minutes before my run. I had the worst side stitches during my run, and only lasted 2.5 miles…. (I totally counted those .25 miles from the morning warm-up… no shame).
The run sucked, and I definitely burmited. I’ll let you figure that one out in lieu of me getting graphic on here.
A quick shower, and I was off back to my apartment. I was too lazy to put my jeans back on, and too lazy to get the spare workout pants from my car, so I drove home in spare oversized boy shorts. I call these my “lesbian shorts.” They are the comfiest shorts ever, and also my “indoor only” shorts, so it would make complete sense for my gas light to come on during my drive home. I refused to be seen in those, so I took the risk and refused to get gas.
My roomie was going Pinterest crazy and sent me this ecard, which is perfect for me.
Last Thursday my wild night included shopping for a food processor, spaghetti squash, and new bed sheets. This Thursday is just as wild. Food shopping, laundry, and a painful session of foam rolling and an ice bath. In an odd way, this will all bring me joy.
And just because I want you to smile today… and to go adopt a dog.
Side note: will someone please come carry me around all day? MY LEGS ARE BURNING! If you see me log rolling around town and the office today, don’t be alarmed… I just can’t walk.
