This week is shaping up to be a different one on the workout front. Not really, but life happens, like wicked sore legs from too many squats and box jumps, and you choose an off day from CrossFit in hopes of walking normal.
With yesterday being an unexpected day off from CrossFit (it was ALL squat focused), I went for a 2.5 mile run, which felt amazing! I could have kept on going if there wasn’t this little thing called “work,” that got in the way of that.
Back to CrossFit though. I had a HUGE day at the box on Friday, which I haven’t mentioned on here yet. Each month, we choose a GOAT that we want to work on achieving. Mine has been to do a handstand since starting. Okay, really, it’s been to do a kick-up, and then eventually do a handstand. On Friday we worked on our GOATs, and I was determined to get mine. Mat helped and spotted me and coached me through trying an actual handstand instead of kicking up. Kick-ups focus on having your hands already planted on the ground and kicking into a handstand, where the handstand, you start standing up.
Handstands have always been a fear of mine since I was little. I just hate having no control of being upside down and believe the worst will happen. Like that I’ll fall and split my head or break my body. Mat calmed my fears, and worked with me. I’d get one foot to touch the wall, and my classmates would cheer me on.
Finally, I did a handstand on my own. As I was upside down, just chilling in my handstand, I realized that everyone that was there was focusing on me achieving my goal and cheering me on. I got high-fives and congratulations, and it was just awesome. That’s what I love about CrossFit. You work on overcoming your personal limitations and fears, but you have a coach who will guide you through it and classmates who root for you and will put a pause on their practice, just for you.
So yesterday, I chose a run over CrossFit, and this morning I couldn’t make it to CF because I’ll be heading to Boston for a conference, but I desperately miss my little CrossFit family. I cannot wait to see my favorite people tomorrow morning at 6:30 am!
You know what I also love that I just reconnected with? My George Foreman grill. I missed this little guy! I used to grill with him all throughout college, since a big boy grill terrifies me, so it was awesome to cook chicken quickly with this. I had 5 pieces cooked in about 10 minutes. Easy prep is what I like!
I went to my parents yesterday after work so my Dad could check something out with my car, and just look at the view from my childhood bedroom. How can you not love that view?
Nothing else to report in my life. I’m actually heading to the BlogWell Conference in Boston this afternoon. Cannot wait to hunt down the fine people of Reebok!
