Last night I braved the wind and went on a date to a Fisher Cats game, which is my city’s AA minor league baseball team. We never made it to our seats, and instead went to the Sam Adam’s bar overlooking right field, and ate and talked the night away. We might have caught several plays, otherwise we were immersed in conversation.
After the game, we watched an amazing display of fireworks, which celebrated the Fisher Cats win, but more importantly, Boston’s win on the terrorists. I had a wicked good time last night on my date, and I’ll leave it at that! 😛
This morning I awoke at 8, downed a Banana Chobani with PB2, and got ready for my race before Jaime and Lindsay arrived. We were on the road up to Stonyfield Farm’s headquarters, where our Earth Day 5k was being held.
We received our bibs and free Life is Good shirts, but unfortunately got there late and were stuck with XL shirts. I swear, whenever I sign up for a shirt, I never get the size I need. A free shirt is a free shirt though, and I love free things.
The wind was biting extra hard this morning, and we were all shivering while we waited for the start of the race, but once it started, we were ready.
Linds and I ran the race side by side the entire way, and we kept giving each other encouraging words. The first half of the race flew by as we gossiped about last night’s date, but then we were hit with hill.after.hill.after.hill. I don’t know how many times I told Linds I wanted to collapse.
She kept me going and I’m glad I had her there by my side. We crossed the line together, and it was so cool hearing the announcer say, Lindsay and Allie Lewis crossed the line together! After grabbing water and meeting up with my Mom and Dad (my two biggest fans – thanks for coming guys!!), we cheered Jaime on as she crossed the line right after us.
I’m SO proud of us for finishing the race, and since this was all of our first race of the season, we vowed to do better at our next race. Instead of getting down on our times, we decided to use it as motivation to only do better on our next race. We have race fever!
After the race, we walked around the Earth Day fair, which had 65 vendors with free food, products and information. We started off with trail mix and Stonyfield smoothies, before stocking up on groceries for the week.
I literally love freebies, and feel like I don’t have to go grocery shopping now.
We then walked what felt like a mile but was probably a little over half a mile back to my car. We literally got a killer workout today. After running hills, and then walking a distance to my car, we are all feeling it. Since getting home, I’ve showered, had a protein shake and am now glued to the couch. I can’t move and my body is hurting, and as Linds just said, “we are going to need wheelchairs tomorrow.”
I’m going to enjoy a lazy afternoon on the couch watching bombing news coverage before going out for Lindsay’s birthday tonight. Mexican and beers sounds pretty well-earned after this morning!
Such a great morning with the girls and a nice way to start the weekend!
