1,000 Mile Row… Or Something Like That

How is today already November? Seriously, where has this year gone?!

I always love seeing the kids that I used to babysit out trick-or-treating, so I headed to my parents after work. I think they had a total of 14ish kids, 3 of which I love. Those 3 were so worth it though. 🙂

Kippy went to doggy day care and ended up getting a Halloween cookie. Look at that tongue in action!

And since Jake wants to be on the blog too, here he is trying to eat my lunch from Wednesday. He has that piece of chicken IN his mouth. That rascal!

And the workout that almost killed me on Thursday. Hellraiser. This was my “welcome back” after being out sick. I thought I was going to explode on the 1000 m row. I was so tired that right before the timer started, I said something about rowing 1,000 miles. And those burpees. Ugh. I take back every time I said I loved burpees.

I did my push-ups on the box after trying several regular push-ups, but the gravity of push-ups and the effect on my throat made me scared that I’d throw up from being sick still. I had no problem scaling to save my pride.

I ran all of .75 miles yesterday, the lowest mileage that has kept my streak alive. That’s all I had time for pre-CrossFit, and I didn’t feel like running, nor did I have the time to after work. Gone are the days where I’d stress about not getting mileage in. If it happens, it happens, if it doesn’t, well, there’s always the next day!

Halloween at Work. No Work, All Play

I was looking for one of my bosses, and when he wasn’t in his office, I took my normal route back to my desk. As I passed the President’s office, I gazed in, and saw my other boss, who I hadn’t seen in costume yet. I couldn’t stop laughing over his face, and the fact that they were having a serious meeting.

I brought my own food to the pot luck, but I checked out all of the fun goodies that everyone brought. My favorite was this pumpkin cake, that my coworker brought. She said it took her 2 hours to frost it!

IMG_3688It was SUCH a fun day, and I am extremely excited for next year’s Halloween extravaganza. I don’t like dressing up, but after seeing how intense everyone gets, I’m ready to go all out next year!

Things That Make Me Happy

Some times I’m extremely awkward and don’t know what words to use, like now, where I’m wondering how to start this post. I’m happy, and I have several things that have been making me happy. Here’s to less awkward sentences and pictures instead.

Things That Make Me Happy

My Mom double fisting cookies. My Dad had a huge employee recognition day at work, and as I was leaving their house Wednesday evening, he showed me his stash of over 100 cookies in his car. My Mom asked to have one. He said no. She took two. The bite out of the brown cookie is mine. #YOLO

Lunch-time CrossFit workouts. It was a nice change to get out of the office and WOD during my lunch hour. I really, really wanted to do the workout, especially because our strength portion of the workout was to practice handstands. I think it’s great to get into classes during the times I don’t normally attend to so I can meet more of the CFers.

Sure was flavorful. Those wall balls are rude. By the 6th wall ball of each set I wanted to pout and stop.

Almond butter. Barney’s is my favorite. There’s just something so different about the amazing taste over other almond butters. I think it more closely resembles peanut butter.

New sweatshirts. One of my favorite reasons I love fall is because I can live in sweatshirts. Mat designed and ordered new sweatshirts for our box, and they arrived Wednesday evening. I didn’t want to wait until this morning to get my sweatshirt and new shirt, which is sort of why I also went in on my lunch hour yesterday to workout.

It is BEYOND comfortable and cozy, and roomie #1 already asked if she could get one. Roomie #2 told her she had to CrossFit to be able to buy and wear one. I can already call it that one day soon my sweatshirt will be stolen.

It’s Friday. And we’re having a HUGE Halloween party at work. So big that there will be practically no work being done from 10 am until 5 pm. Each division chooses a category to dress up as. There’s a Halloween committee that will go to each division, and we have to put on a skit. We have a big pot luck, which gets judged for the best food. My boss got a  photobooth, a huge haunted house was created in our training room, the little kids come in to trick-or-treat, and there’s an award ceremony for the best costumes.

Oh, and a date tomorrow night, and family party on Sunday. 🙂

“I’m Such a Bad Mother”

Have you ever received a message from someone close to you, whether it is a family member or a friend, and it just didn’t seem like something they would say?

I received a text message from my Mom this afternoon that immediately worried me.

Around noon she said, “Oh my gosh Allie I am such a bad mother.”

I was confused and started wracking my brain trying to think if today marks a special anniversary or day for my brother or I. I came up with nothing, so I texted her, “huh?”

No reply. I called her. Straight to voicemail. I started worrying my ass off and called my Dad as I was so worried something happened to her. That was NOT a message she would send without an explanation.

While dialing my Dad, she called me back and acted completely normal.

Want to know why she’s such a bad mother? She said she forgot to give me my Halloween gift. Boyyyy did I want to slap her silly! She had me so worried and when I told her what she put me through (in those 5 minutes of no response), we both got a laugh out of it. I completely forgot that my Mom & Dad always give gifts to my brother and me on every holiday under the sun; Easter, Valentine’s Day (out of pity since I’m ALWAYS single), and Halloween.

I was so busy running errands before the 15 Trick-or-Treaters bombarded our house and doing my P90X workout that I didn’t even realize I didn’t get my annual gift.

That woman kills me!

I was still riding high this afternoon from my awesome weigh-in results and wanted to keep the healthy habits going.

I completed the same lunch time workout that I did yesterday but flip-flopped the last 2 cardio sessions around. Gotta confuse the body in some way.

Afternoon Workout

  • 2 mile run
  • 10 minutes elliptical
  • 10 minutes spinning

Today has been one of those days where I’ve been more hungry than usual. Not really sure why since I had 2 bowls of cereal at 2 am last night. Ooops! Ya know, that’s me just living the dream.

My body was screaming for food so I happily dug into my 2-Ingredient crock pot chicken leftovers from last night.

Shredded chicken, mixed veggies, broccoli and brown rice. Perfect post-workout meal! I have the same meal prepared for tomorrow’s lunch but I am craving a pulled chicken sandwich. Plus, the brown rice is always a great add-in to my Chobani Strawberry Banana yogurt.

I’ve got a long to-do list in front of me so it’s time to get a crackin’!

Terrific Thursday

Happy Terrific Thursday!

I’m so extremely excited to report that I’m down 1.7 pounds from last Thursday, and my jeans are feeling loser in the hips! Given the fact that my weigh-in day fell the morning after Halloween seriously freaked me out, so when I was expecting to see the numbers go up and instead they drastically fell, I nearly convulsed on the scale.

Thank you, thank you Tony Horton for kicking my ass into gear. It’s true what they say; you can’t expect to receive results if you continually do the same thing. By adding the P90X workouts to my running schedule, I’ve been able to not only get stronger and defined arms and shoulders, I also feel a lot better too!

I had been discouraged because I was sticking to the P90X schedule to a T (well, unless you forget about the fact that I don’t enjoy and refuse to do the yoga workout… hey no one’s perfect!) and wasn’t seeing results. I’m sure I was enjoying a few too many licks of peanut butter or “treating myself” for working out like a “beast” as I’ve been referred. So to see amazing results like that has put the biggest smile on my face. After rereading this, I remembered that Rome wasn’t built in a day, so your body won’t change overnight either.

Before I touch upon this morning’s workout and breakfast, I NEED to discuss this unbeknownst AMAZING piece of candy I tried last night for the first time.

Goodness I need to paint my nails!

I’m a big Snickers fan to begin with, but to throw in a smear of peanut butter in between the peanuty chocoately caramel goodness was too much… in a good way.

Move aside Almond Joy, Peanut Butter M&Ms, White Chocolate Kit Kat bars, there’s a new favorite in town.

I’m drooling over my computer, wishing that I had a bowl full of the Snickers PB Squared candies right now! Instead I’ll treat you to a bowl of my power breakfast.

If you missed last night’s post, you’ll know that we had only 15 trick-or-treaters. Total buzz kill. With a bowl full of candy leftovers, I forced them to leave the house. My coworkers had similar ideas too because when I walked into the kitchen at 8 this morning, there was a freezer bag full of Snickers & Reese’s PB Cups. Looks like someone else doesn’t have candy willpower.

By 10 am when I went in to grab my bowl of overnight oats, all of the Reese’s were gone. I knew the vultures were going to pick those suckers out quickly! Even the trick-or-treaters always always always go for the Reese’s. There are plenty of peanut butter lovers out there, I love it!

This morning’s workout was a toughy but a goodie. I was up until about 11:30 last night talking with Florida’s Most Eligible Bachelor, and I don’t think I fell asleep until around midnight, so 5 ½ hours instead of my typical 7 ½ hours of sleep kind of knocked me on my side.

Morning Workout
• 3.5 mile run
• 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• 1 minute regular plank and :30 second plank holds on both sides
• 2 sets of 20 mountain climbers
• 100’s Abs
• 3 sets of 50 crunches; regular, left and right side
• 30 heaven touches… or toe touches if you don’t speak Allie
• Stretching

I’m feeeeeeeling good peanut butter babies. Plus it’s almost Friday!

Bombarded with Trick-or-Treaters

Tonight I made a guess as to how many kids we’d get for Halloween. I guessed 25. After our first neighbors came by, I thought it’d be a good idea to make a tally. Since we are the 2nd house on the road entering the neighborhood we rarely get a large showing. I think one year we went through the ONE bag of candy we bought, freaked out, and went to get more. It doesn’t help that all the kids are growing up too.

So I guessed 25. We had a whopping FIFTEEN. 15 kids. What the heck, such a letdown!

I was finally able to meet our new neighbors, or at least the wife and daughter, as Lisa’s husband is on storm duty and working from 6 am-midnight until every house has power again. You want to know why I love Lisa?

She’s a runner! She also teaches Zumba on Monday and Wednesday nights, and invited us to come for a class. I’ve always wanted to try Zumba, and at $5 a class, I think I’ll try it! I can do it for free at Gold’s but I like the idea of taking Lisa’s class since she’s awesome, so I know it’d be a good time and I wouldn’t worry about looking like a jackass.

After talking with Lisa for about 10 minutes in the freezing cold about our previous races and future faces, I went back inside to finish my P90X Shoulders & Arms workout before making myself a “No Bake STUFT Protein Cookie,” aka a healthy peanut butter cookie that I snagged from Kristin.

Kristin’s recipe called for chocolate on top, but because I had already had a few pieces of Halloween candy earlier in the afternoon, I decided to skip the chocolate topping just this once.

This cookie was SO good and I’m excited to make it again and tweak it around a bit as it was a little too moist. I was impatient and didn’t let the peanut butter chill enough. I can’t contain myself around peanut butter. 😛

I grazed on my 2-ingredient crock pot chicken as well for a little extra protein, but the majority of the chicken will be used in tomorrows lunch.

To make this meal, all you have to do is place chicken breasts in chicken broth and let it cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8 hours, shred it once it’s done and enjoy any way you prefer! This would be good mixed with BBQ sauce and put on sandwiches.

I cannot wait for lunch tomorrow!

Also, can we please just take a look at the decorations at Natural Market. I stopped in after work today to pick up another bag of chia seeds and got a good laugh at their mix of Fall and Christmas decorations.

I have to give them creative props though, they wrapped 2 poles in Christmas garland, the next 3 in fall decor and the next 2 in Christmas garland.

Here we go Christmas!

Cable’s Back = Geeking Out

We finally have our cable back which means I can blog again from my computer! So happy I’m geeking out! 🙂

Let’s get to this afternoon’s eats.

Lunch:

For lunch I enjoyed Sara Lee Low Sodium Turkey roll-ups with cherry tomatoes. I wanted something light and filling since I was skipping my lunch to leave work an hour early.

An hour later I sprinkled a little bit of PB2 on the sweet potato slices for a sweet afternoon snack.

I might have celebrated Halloween a day early with a Cookies & Cream Hershey’s fun-size bar.

Okay, so we really had the fun-sized candy in the marketing department for a trade show tomorrow, but we’ll just go with the Halloween idea. 😉

After leaving work an hour early, I went for a 1-mile warm up run and followed it with the P90X Pylometrics workout.

I was a freakin’ beast! I literally rung sweat from that mofo. My legs were extremely tight, especially after running outside all weekend, so I plopped myself into a much-needed ice bath.

My little legs are so sore and my eyes are getting heavy. Time to chip away at Gone Girl. It was due today and I’m not allowed to renew it since there’s a long wait for it so I’m trying to read it quickly. Stinkin’ late fees are no fun!

Friday

Once we arrived in Harrisburg yesterday afternoon, I threw on my running clothes and went for a run along the Sasquanna River, while Ry and Chels gave my parents a tour of their house.

Since I went for a 2 mile morning run before the drive, I only completed 2.15 miles. After a quick run, I met up with Ry and my parents who went for a walk along the river front while Chelsey finished up work.

After we relaxed and showered for the evening, we all made our own burgers, where we chose between turkey and ground beef as the base of the burger and add-ins, including different types of pepper and seasonings.

Undocumented were the best rendition on carrots. CARROT CHIPS! These were my favorite part of the meal, and you’ll be sure to see carrot chips in the next few days on here.

After dinner, we got dressed and headed a block over to Chelsey’s old house to attend her former roommate’s Halloween party.

I donned black skinny jeans, a black belt, red and black stripped suspenders, a beanie, hipster glasses and a too small white t-shirt. I give you the hipster nerd, as Chelsey deemed me.

Adam, who was one of Chelsey’s former roommates, dressed up as Christian Grey, with an eye mask, whip, and cuffs linked to his belt.

I’ve always been extremely attracted to him, but once he told me who he was, I nearly dropped my pants and bent over. I would have taken an ass whipping from him any day. Ow ow!!

Saturday Morning

Today I woke up around 9:30 and laced up my running shoes to tackle a quick 3.7 mile run along the water front while the rest of the house woke up and ate breakfast.

I then came back and snacked on a bowl of Ryan’s homemade granola, which he used Naked Protein Granola, Walnuts, Sunflower Seeds and Almonds in it. Talk about addicting!

I’m not a fan of drinking milk but the Silk milk my brother drinks was so sweet and yummy that I started drinking bowlfuls of it!

Once we were all showered up we headed to Lancaster, PA to explore Amish country. Check back later for a post on our Amish day. For now, it’s time for an engagement dinner!

Sticky Granola Bars & Planko X Sweat

You know when you eat something that is deliciously amazing and then realize that it was made with incredibly dirt nasty ingredients and you get sick to your stomach?

I lived that moment today when I snacked on a granola bar before working out. I wasn’t all too hungry but I wanted something small with staying power to get me through my workout before lunch.

I reached for the Cascadian Farm organic Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Bar that Jen grabbed for me this past weekend and went to town.

The first bite and I was in love! It should be renamed to the Incredible Chewy Granola Bar, since that’s exactly what it was. There were so many chocolate chips jammed into the sample sized bar! Pure heaven.

Then I turned the bar over on accident and was disgusted.

Look at all that dried syrup, oil and sugar just screaming for attention.

Gross!

Now I know why it was stuck in the wrapper and then stuck to my hand.

So I had a little fun in mocking how unhealthy the granola bar is.

 

Before I saw the bottom of the bar, I had convinced myself upon the first bite that I’d be buying a box of these. Now, I don’t think that’ll be happening. Just because a product is labeled “organic” does not by any means consider it healthy.

It was sooooo good though! Almost as good as that fro-yo. 😉

My afternoon run left me feeling amazing. The 2 miles flew by and the only time I had to stop was to wipe the sweat out of my eyes, off my forehead, cheeks, and mouth. Ladies and gentlemen, I sweat pretty.

I finished my run with 15 minutes on the vertical elliptical before heading back to shower and enjoy my garbage scramble. I haven’t enjoyed one of those lovely scrambles in an earth shattering few days so it enjoyed a nice welcome back fiesta!

My weekend has begun! Since I’ll have a busy weekend, I switched today and tomorrows P90X workouts and just completed Plank X.

Time to go do laundry, hit the mall to grab some suspenders and glasses for this weekend, and pack my little heart away!

Scary Movies & Killer Workouts

It’s that time of the month, the official Halloween countdown has begun, which means 13 Nights of Halloween has started! As much as I look forward to watching the nightly movies that ABC Family shows, I truly miss walking into the movie store and browsing the Halloween selection that would be modeled on the main wall.

Mine is easily Hocus Pocus! I have it set up on my DVR and am looking forward to watching it this week. I might have to buckle down and buy it at Target as well. I’m the type of person who loves watching Christmas movies during the summer, so I can easily see myself watching Hocus Pocus come spring time.

As mature as I am, I prefer the kid Halloween movies as opposed to the freaky poop your pants movies. Brian and I used to watch a scary movie almost every night when we were roommates in Los Angeles, and it was a little tradition of ours that I miss a lot! I can only imagine the shit he would put me through as the countdown to Halloween winds down. I’m sure he would have booby trapped the house all too well. I’m thankful I’m not there for that!

Sunday

Yesterday afternoon Lindsay and I put on our big girl pants and went to the matinee showing of Paranormal Activity 4… Hey, we didn’t want to drive home in the dark after a horror movie! We were both extremely excited and nervous for what we got ourselves into, and boy were we scared little girls! I looked over multiple times and found Linds watching through slits in her hoodie, and she glanced over at me multiple times and found me lying across the seats scared shitless. Even though I’ve read a lot of reviews for PA4 saying it was terrible, I think it was one of the best ones yet. I screamed, I swore and I said “Lord” way too many times. A majority of the movie was spent looking through a small crack that I formed with my hoodie. The terror was worth it! Frickin’ Robbie is a heart attack child. After seeing that movie, we decided that Robbie, Wyatt and Hunter are NEVER to be used as kids names.

When Linds dropped me off, I walked into my dark garage, head down, and out of nowhere, my Dad said “Hi,” and as I looked up, I saw him just standing there in the dark. If you weren’t sure whether this white girl could jump, well, she can, and she did. My Dad thought he was hilarious, as I ran out of the garage screaming to Linds. Apparently my Dad was cleaning out my cat’s litter box, and was just walking out of the house when I came in, and I quote the man, “I didn’t want to scare you with a litter box on my shoulder.” Well, you did!

After calming down and feeding my hungry belly a snack of pretzel sticks dipped in peanut butter, I completed my scheduled P90X workout; Chest & Shoulders and Ab Ripper X, which I followed up with a 1.1 mile run. I ran 4 miles that morning so I wanted to round it off.

Monday

Today has been one of those mornings where I woke up and believed that I had another 3 hours left until my alarm would go off. Not the case. I had 13 minutes, and I was TIRED! I was restless last night, and while I had the lights out at 9 when I began to get tired, I couldn’t sleep, and ended up finishing the latest edition of my Women’s Health magazine. The only benefit is that I’ve whittled my stack of magazines down. I still have 3 to go so I better get crackin’ since I’ll have another round coming in a week and a half.

Morning Workout
