Monday morning and I’m back at work, trying to reach deadlines and make it to Friday. It’s only 6 days until Easter, which means 6 days until I binge on my Aunt’s amazing dessert mix. I will just repeat a “stay strong” mantra all week so I can behave next Sunday.
Until then, let’s jump into this past weekend, which was full of shopping, eating, working out, and fun!
Friday night shopping at the outlets. For years I’ve seen those Nike shirts that say “Running Sucks.” I always got a little bit of a giggle out of those shirts, but I always wanted to yell at those people and say, “no it doesn’t!” FINALLY Nike got inside my brain because I found this shirt in their store and decided that I need to buy it with my next paycheck. I think you’d only understand it if you knew about the “Running Sucks” shirts. Why does it have to be white though? I’d sweat too easily in that thing and get pit stains within 2 weeks. The life of a #heavysweater.
Instead of rolling out of bed and straight to the gym, I enjoyed a relaxing Saturday morning. I cozied up on the couch with breakfast, blog work, and my new favorite show, “Manhattan Love Story,” which Jaime told me was cancelled.
But what’s really going on BEHIND the scenes? This. When he hears the top of a yogurt container being ripped off, he will literally plant himself at your feet and will NOT, I mean, will absolutely not take his eyes off of you or blink until you finish and hand him the bowl to lick clean.
Then it was off to the gym at 10! Here are the shoes that I wore during my workout… because I’m not at the stage where I look cool enough in gym selfies.
1 mile run (saving my legs for Sunday’s race), 8 minute ab video, and then I demolished my shoulders. Love that feeling of a super good lift day! Here I am after doing abs, just pretending that I’m in the tropics. They just moved that fake plant to that spot, and I loved the reflection it had during my workout. It actually did make me feel more motivated to do the entire ab video. This kept reminding me to get those abs for my tropical vacation to the Bahamas this September. Oh yes, I forgot to tell you about that! 🙂
I was absolutely famished after my workout, so once I made it home and was showered, I whipped up a special batch of Kodiak Cake protein pancakes. I topped it with a little bit of whipped cream just to make it extra awesome. I add 1 scoop of protein powder to this to make it extra filling!
After pancakes, I did a few things around the house before heading out for errands, dinner out at Carrabba’s, and Dexter. Last season of Dexter… how did that happen?!
Sunday morning started around 8 with another batch of protein pancakes, topped with blueberry syrup, while watching King of Queens, a show that I was OBSESSED with in college. Followed up by a few episodes of Friends, before getting ready for my first race of the year!
And then it was race time! We accidentally ended up being THE last people to start the race. This is what it looked like in front of us.
My main goal of the race was to simply do better than last year. Last year really felt like a struggle running it, and this year, it felt amazing. It felt like I was breezing through it, and I tackled the awful uphill with ease. I walked the last 1/3 of the hill, probably 100 feet, just so I could bust out the last mile on Elm St. It was tough. My lungs were burning during the home stretch, and I was really pushing my pace in order to beat last year’s time. I managed to do so, but not without being on the verge of wanting to puke. I only beat last year’s time by 20 seconds, which really bummed me out, but I think starting at the very end and having to weave in and out of the kids, strollers and walkers added maybe 30-60 seconds on my time, but hey, I beat my goal of finishing quicker, and that’s something that I’m happy about! 🙂
The rest of my day was spent attempting a leg workout at the gym right after, prepping meals for the week, grocery shopping, and relaxing. By 2:30 I was beyond wiped out!
What was the highlight of your weekend?
Did you run a race this weekend?
Ever thrown up during a race?!
