You might remember when Janine joined me for a SurfSet class about a month ago. Little unknown fact, but after that class while we were grabbing our belongings, Janine and I brainstormed Blog & Tweet NH, and the next day it was born.
We immediately reached out to Chris, who is the SurfSet instructor, and asked if she would be interested in hosting one of our events.
Christ was all for giving us one hell of a workout and jumped at the chance to host.
Chris is in the middle wearing the light blue tank top. If you still can’t spot her, look for Janine in the giraffe pants, and Chris is to the left. 😉
We were all smiles before the class began, but by the end of the warmup, Sara and I agreed we were ready to be done. The warmup alone was 10 times harder than the last SurfSet class I took.
Chris told us that the boards were altered slightly so that they are now more unstable, giving us an even harder workout. There were mountain climbers, squats, planks, push-ups, jump overs, jumping jacks and jump roping involved. Ps, my girl Jaime and her friend Vicki are in the above picture. Jaime ran the Stonyfield 5K race with me and I was so happy she was able to come!
Jaime was under the impression that this was going to be an easy and relaxing yoga class on the board. Whoops, she must have recalled the first time I tried SurfSet at the yoga studio. Luckily Jaime still loved the class and even said, “let’s go back sometime.” Yes Jaime, you did say that, so no take backs. 🙂
One of my favorite moves involved the kettlebells.
We did kettlebell swings on the floor, but we also incorporated them on the board with a squat to overhead press. It was awesome!
At the end of the class, Chris had us complete interval work. We did three rounds of burpee and board jumps. So with 9 boards in a circle, you would jump over one and then do a burpee. We completed 3 rounds, and during the 2nd round, I actually missed the clearing and ended up jamming my left foot into the board.
I jammed all 3 toes on the left side of my left foot, and spent the remainder of the day wobbling around. It was incredibly painful, so I was absolutely happy that I got my run in before the class.
Janine is crazy. Crazy because after the butt-whooping workout, she still had the energy to pose like a ninja on the board.
Chris was a total sweetheart and even gave us a goodie bag full of coupons and treats. We received both a $5 and $10 gift card to Runner’s Alley, which is directly across the street, and also granola and almonds.
It was honestly such a great class, but more so, it was nice to be able to meet other New Hampshire bloggers and start to form a friendship with them as well. I cannot wait until I get to work with Chris again, and we are hoping that we can bring Blog & Tweet NH and Chris to a surfing/paddleboarding lesson ON water this summer.
Again, a special BIG thank you to Chris at TI Fitness Training for accommodating her Saturday to let 8 New Hampshire social media queens have a little fun on surfboards.
