Nikki Gets Hitched & Vacation!

Greetings from vacation! I’m officially off from work for the rest of July with my family, and I couldn’t be happier.

Vacation started early Friday afternoon, where we watched my beautiful cousin Nikki, marry the man of her dreams. I bought a selfie stick for the wedding/vacation, and thankfully it was well-received. In fact, people loved it!

imageThe venue was beautiful, as was the bride. Nikki was so determined that she was never going to get married or meet a great guy, and it even got to the point where she made a bet with Lindsay and I that if she ever got married, she owed us dinner. Not only did Nikki get married, but she found such an incredible husband.

imageAntoine fits into our crazy family perfectly, and he not only treats Nikki like his queen, but he’s so caring and welcoming to all of us. Lucas and his uncle Tony. <3

imageThe day was h-o-t. #backandboobsweatfordayz.image

imageFun fact: This guy right here stole my name. We are one month apart, almost exactly, and since I didn’t turn out to be a boy, my godmother decided to use the name. Hi Jay!

image Chels and I lit up the dance floor, completely sober, completely crazy and reckless. I think it was one of my favorite moments that I’ve ever had with her.

imageSaturday morning started good. No drinking = no hangover, so off to the gym it was! After lifting back and a 30 minute HIIT run, it was back home to pack. Or attempt to pack. Sweet little Nesssie knew something was up and didn’t want us to go. At one point, she even sprawled out in my suitcase, and I felt so awful having to take her out of it.

imageAll of those bikinis mean one thing… my parents, Ryan, Chelsey, and I are at our family’s beach house in York, ME for the week! The house is on Long Sands, and sits right in front of the beach, so my brother has a prime creeping location on the front porch.  imageSaturday afternoon consisted of unpacking and grocery shopping, before heading into Kittery, ME for dinner at When Pigs Fly.

During dinner, we got hit with an incredible storm. Downpour, thunder, lighting, intense wind, and on our drive back to the house, we spotted a double rainbow.

imageWhich meant a photo-shoot occurred back at the house. Ryan and Chelsey nailed their picture!imageStill figuring out this selfie stick thing, hence the lack of sky and rainbows, but it’s still a cute shot!

Again, rainbow fail, but just look at how intense the sky is behind us. The rays of light shooting out from the ocean was a sight to see.

imageVacation find #1, this sweet mug that Ryan and I gave our Pepere one year. Those outfits, just wow. I look like I was rescued from being lost in the woods!

What did you do this weekend?

Did your parents ever dress you in crazy outfits?

The Day My Brother Got Married

I hope you guys are ready for a photo dump, because this post is going to be a long one! If you didn’t see or hear, my brother and his 8 1/2 year love Chelsey got married at one of the most beautiful spots I have ever seen at Amarante’s Sea Cliff in New Haven, CT.

On Friday, after a 3 mile run and a morning of packing, I headed to Boston to pick up my best friend and date, Mike, to head to CT. We hit quite a bit of traffic, so our 3 hour drive meant that we couldn’t stop at our hotel before heading to the rehearsal. Ryan showed me pictures over a year ago of their wedding spot, but the pictures he showed me didn’t do it justice. Breathtaking and beautiful.

We spent about 15 minutes rehearsing, before heading over to Chelsey’s hometown of Guilford, where we had the rehearsal dinner at The Place.

mike and i

Holy cool!! I think every town needs a joint like this. They brought us appetizers of clams, mussels, shrimp, and oysters, before we selected the meal that we wanted.

I chose the salmon with the veggie bob. So good! Chelsey brought about 5 pies for the dessert, which Mike and I happily sampled. Strawberry rhubarb for me, cherry for him, and a small chunk of chocolate lemon pie for me as well. We cleared the plate. No regrets.

Around 10, we headed back to the hotel so that we could finally unpack and then so I could repack for the next day.

Saturday: Wedding Day

I woke up around 7, and went straight down to the hotel gym for a quick 2 mile run. After that around 9:30, I went straight to Chelsey’s parent’s house about 25 minutes away to spend the day with the bridesmaids and get ready for the 6:30 pm wedding.

Chelsey didn’t like her veil, so naturally she cut it 2 hours before go time.

wedding prep

The first limo picked up 7 of the bridesmaids around 4:50, and the mothers, Chelsey, her sister and myself were picked up at 5:50. We took in the view of the boys, friends and family for a few minutes, before we headed down to walk the bride down the aisle.

Ryan kept his gaze on the ground for almost the entire time Chelsey walked down the aisle because he knew he was going to cry. He kept it together as best as he could, but I think their faces say it all.

ry n chelss

One of my favorite parts of Ry’s vows was when he said, “Chelsey, I was lucky to meet you when I was 20, and I was smart enough to realize what I had.” It’s true, not once have they broken up in their 8 1/2 years together.

Chelsey’s smile.ry chels i do

I have never seen Chelsey so happy or Ryan so emotional. It was the most romantic and fairy tale wedding I have been to, and yes, I cried like a baby.

My cousin Jay and I walked together! Love this shot. I kept yelling at Jay to look at our other cousin Lindsay, who is responsible for a majority of these shots. He finally noticed her!

And then we enjoyed the rest of the night!

And ate our Hershey kisses favor bags.

unnamed-43Such a beautiful night, venue, and couple.

Congratulations to Ryan and my brand new sister! 🙂

The Most Romantic Weekend

I’m back from wedding weekend! I had a blast with my best friend date, Mike.mike and i Where we ate delicious food at the rehearsal dinner.corn And then we demolished this entire plate of pie.pieBefore heading to the beautiful wedding venue, for easily the most fairy tale wedding I’ve ever been to.

8 1/2 years of love made for the most romantic wedding.ry n chels I got to walk with my cousin, Jay.jay and i And after a late night celebrating love and a new Lewis, we had a “new family” brunch before sending the newlyweds off on their honeymoon to France, Spain and Rome.bfastI will post a full recap tomorrow!

Fun Things & I Almost Have a Sister!!!

Thank you to all of your kind comments and support on yesterday’s post!! I am so happy to know that a lot of you are like me and don’t enjoy drinking anymore. It took a lot of courage for me to post that, and I contemplated deleting it so many times during review, but I’m glad I went through with it. You all made me feel like it’s okay to not drink and THANK YOU for saying that my story was inspiring. I had a story to tell, and I needed it to be as raw as possible.

Let’s move on to some fun!

Garmin contacted me last week asking if I would review the latest and updated Garmin Forerunner 15. How could I say no?! I had a lime green one before, but absolutely LOVE the teal watch they sent me! Garmin wants me to use the watch for a month before reviewing it, so there will be some fun runs in my future! 🙂

My Dad has really been into being healthy over the last 6 months, and not only is he dropping weight left and right, but he even bought himself a FitBit on Monday. Well, I got pretty jealous and went out and bought my own on Wednesday! We are FitBit twins!IMG_8905 In high school and college I worked at Target, and was in the best shape of my life, and I owe a lot of that to being on my feet and walking for 8 hours of the day. Ever since getting a desk job in 2011ish, the weight has slowly crept up from sitting a majority of the day. I’m really hoping that this FitBit motivates me to walk a lot.  I’ve been taking the extra long way at work to use the bathroom. Which means leaving our office, walking downstairs, and walking the main corridor to the 2nd level’s main restroom. Each bathroom trip gets me about .25 miles walked, so it’s nice. Given the fact that I pee about 10+ times a work day, this will add up!IMG_8869

CrossFit happened MTW. This is what the inside of Sara’s gym bag looks like. Yup, all dirty socks I believe.

IMG_8893When your coworker gives you a flower and you have no vase, it’s totally okay to throw it in your hair.

Went to Burgerfest last night. Gluten free buns are disgusting.

And more importantly, wedding weekend has officially begun!!!! I cannot believe the day is almost here for my brother to marry his college sweetheart. My handsome date and I hit the road in several hours, and cannot wait to celebrate love this weekend. 🙂

ryan and chels2Talk to you next week when I officially have a sister!!!! 🙂

Tequila Turns Me Into the Best Matchmaker

Happy Monday chickies! While I’m kind of bummed that I have a full work-week, I’ll admit that I am super stoked that I’m not traveling this week. First time in 2 weeks I won’t be traveling. Thank goodness!

I had a relatively low-key, but fun weekend!

Friday night started with a painful, but wonderful CrossFit massage. I used to think that getting your butt massaged at the end of a session was the best part, that was until I had a CF massage. I had to ask Lauren if she was jamming her fists or elbows into my butt to work knots out. They were her elbows. And I wanted to cry.

After surviving an hour of pure torture, a friend came over and had a movie night with me. I was pretty pumped when he instantly chose Silver Linings Playbook. Bonus points for not cracking one joke about the 30+ chick flicks I own.

Saturday started at the bright hour of 6:45 am, but forced myself back to sleep until 8:25. I enjoyed the next hour and a half relaxing and cooking breakfast, before heading to CrossFit Ad Finem for an hour of mobility at 10. This is my favorite way to start Saturdays because I get to spend a straight hour talking to my friend Kara, who also goes to 6:30 am with me. Love girl talk with her!

It was about 45 degrees out and so warm, aside from a little bit of wind, but I really wanted to take advantage of the nice weather on a weekend and run outside. My Garmin was at my parents, so I headed there to grab it and take a run around their neighborhood. One of the top reasons I’m excited to move back there in April is because it is THE best place to run.

3.3 miles. It was a super slow pace, but I ran lots of hills, against my preference. Running hills now will make race day hills easier. Be smart people! My only advice for running hills are:

  1. Just do it
  2. Don’t look up. Look 1-2 strides ahead of you. It’ll go my faster 🙂
  3. Don’t rush, slow down

The rest of my Saturday was spent running errands, throwing some chicken in the crockpot, and doing some blog/life work for several hours on the couch. I caught up on some of the Parks & Rec episodes I’ve missed. Coincidentily I found this on Pinterest and lololololol’d.

I stopped at Marshall’s to grab another jar of coconut oil, and made the mistake of walking through the women’s section. Before I even made it to the food aisle, I was in the dressing room. I LOVED both of these, but the pink top (Calvin Klein) was too big, and they had no XS, and the leather jacket (Guess) is soooo adorable and soft, but they didn’t have my size. I’m a sucker for leather jackets, so I’m keeping my eyes peeled for my size.

From 6:45 until 10:30, Jenny and I spent the evening having a girl’s night at Shorty’s, a Mexican restaurant right near us. It was such a fun night, and she even convinced me to order tequila on the rocks, one of the drinks I’m allowed to have on our Paleo Challenge. It was incredibly strong, but it did make me laugh a lot! It also gave me the idea to set Jenny up with a guy at her gym that I knew. It actually worked. Tequila and jungle juice (for her) are good for idea making!

Sunday started bright and early at 7:45 am, where I headed down to the gym to get a short workout in.  I ran 1 mile, then did a little kettlebell work. Moves included kb swings and overhead kettlebell lunges. My left arm is a lot weaker than my right, so I had to sub a 20 lb dumbbell on the left side. I typically use the 36# at CrossFit, but this had to suffice.

Later on, I headed over to David’s Bridal with my Mom to try on bridesmaid dresses for my brothers wedding. I had time to kill before I could get a dressing room, so naturally I planned my imaginary wedding. The dress is so not me, but I LOVE the suit!

IMG_6315A lazy Sunday ensued, as I meal prepped and bummed in sweats on the couch, while drooling over Peyton Manning in the Super Bowl!

Perfect weekend indeed!

What was the best part of your weekend?

Sore Saturday. Murph and a Wedding

As I’m writing this post, it’s Sunday late afternoon, and I am hurting. Badly. And it’s allllll because of what happened on Saturday. So let’s rewind, shall we?

My Saturday started at 6:50, when I woke up wide awake, 40 minutes before my scheduled alarm. Ugh. Rude. Lounged, and ran several errands, before heading to the 9 am class at CrossFit.

The game plan was to complete “Murph’ with a partner.

IMG_3254The hardest part of this was actually the runs. We did this with partners, so it wasn’t as brutal as it could have been. I chose to run 3/4 of each runs, the rest we went to town on in different rep counts.

After a quick shower, I was off to Boston to pick up my best friend, Mike, before heading to Hingham for Andrew & Jess’ wedding.

Andrew and I were best friends our freshman year of college, and unfortunately over the years we did fall apart, but I always loved his girlfriend Jess, and we hung out throughout the years, just not as often.

Seeing them for the first time since college graduation in 2010 was amazing! Their reception was at a swanky country club, and the views were astonishing! Right before we walked in, as I was closing my car door, I actually closed my hand instead. A server had to give me a bag of ice, as my hand had turned purple and blue very quickly. Later in the night, Andrew’s father asked if I was the pretty girl he saw earlier with an ice pack. Haha yup, always making a great impression. 🙂

My hunky date!IMG_3309 1383034_810391457183_1509978929_n

Reunited with the Bryant boys. They were all extremely close with my brother as they played on the Racquetball team with him and Andrew, and as always happened with my brothers’ friends, they became my friends and also protective brothers.

{Mike, Mike & Steve (Andrew’s brother)}

After eating, we jumped into the photobooth for a bit of fun.

1395415_810427245463_284510103_n IMG_3304 IMG_3305

The rest of the night I spent dancing my little heart away. I was jumping in my heels for hours. I even left Mike at the table for a bit while I went out and danced. At the end of the night I snagged a number. I’ve gotten a number at all 2013 weddings I’ve attended. I’m on a roll!

I woke up feeling dead. My body hurt from CrossFit and from dancing, and my hand was throbbing. I spent a good portion of my morning foam rolling, while wearing my PRO Compression socks. It helped!

I got in a quick run before grocery shopping and food prepping. The rest of my evening was spent balling my eyes out while watching Glee, and watching my favorite Sunday marathon of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Biggest Sunday guilty pleasure ever!

I have come to terms with the fact that I don’t do anything on Sundays, and I thoroughly embrace it!

What do you do on Sundays?

A Cop Gave My Girl His Last Name

On Saturday evening, Amber, one of my favorite girl friends, got married to Brandon, her high school sweetheart.

Amber and I met maybe 5 years ago when we used to work at Target together during high school and college. I actually really disliked her when I first met her (ha!), but she quickly became my sidekick and we were soon attached to the hip, which our bosses really hated. We quickly added a new little bird to the mix, Danielle, and soon, we became the awesome trio.

When we arrived to the venue, there was a light drizzle and slight wind, which would have been okay if the ceremony was inside. We walked past a beautiful garden, before we were led to an open field where the ceremony took place.

I bundled and cuddled up with Mara, who flew in from Virginia, and watched the gorgeous bride walk down the aisle.

Both Amber and Brandon were tearing up while up at the altar, along with cracking up and wearing the biggest grins on their faces. At the reception I asked Amb’s what they were talking about, and she said, they kept asking each other if they should be talking, and then kept telling each other to shush.

They are so perfect for each other and I’m so glad that this amazing cop has stolen my girl’s heart.

They’ve been together almost 10 years, and I’ve only known Brandon to be an amazing boyfriend and fiance to her, a reminder that there are really great guys out there and to never settle for less (please force me to repeat this every day).

It seems so unreal that our girl has finally married the man of her dreams, but she did, and we had to celebrate big.

We danced the entire night away, with our white white white girl moves and took way too many pictures. In essence, it was the perfect night with some of my favorite and closest friends.

Towards the end of the night, Brandon put me in a choke hold while I was dancing, and dragged me backwards 10 feet to where his cousin was standing… his cousin that I had my eyes on all night. Being in a chokehold was an interesting way to meet someone, but by the end of the night, the cousin landed my number, and Brandon and his other cousins and aunts are already planning future dates for us. I have never been so embarrassed in my life.

All I can say is thank goodness for my blue drink.

IMG_9574Which just so happened to prevent me from running in a race I was supposed to race in Sunday morning. Word to the wise, if you eat relatively clean, never sign up for a race the morning after a wedding. A late night full of wedding food and drinks aren’t a good pre-race idea.

I might have lost that one, but the only thing that matters is that Amb’s was finally wifed up.

Today is the last day to enter the Artisana Nut Butter Giveaway. It will close at 5 pm EST and is open to US residents, no P.O. Box. Good luck!

A Wedding in a Tornado

This weekend was crazy, hectic, and full of family and love.

I took Friday off from work and headed down to Cape Cod to celebrate the marriage of my brother’s best friend, Jay aka Viss, and his high school sweetheart of 12 years, Kate. Since going to college with my brother, I became friends with his friends, and became very close with Viss, so I was very happy to be at the wedding.

A mini tornado decided it wanted to make an appearance, and let me just say that the reception was outside, on top of a hill overlooking Provincetown.

Guests were drenched, and had to run down the hill to use the bathroom at the gift shop. It was the scariest and most exciting wedding I’ve ever been to.

The wedding continued with a lot of dancing, drinks and best of all, a photobooth!

IMG_5571 photo

I was so sad to see the night end, but after a long, hot shower to clean off all of the sweat, I was out cold.

I love weddings! 🙂
