So in a perfect world, this post should have gone live around 9 am, but because I was hacked, there was just a bit of a delay on this post. All is right in the world again thanks to the wonderful men over at WPSiteCare. <<– the only men I need, aside from my Dad and brother. Anyways, for this week’s edition of What I Ate Wednesday, I thought it’d be fun to recap everything that I ate on the day of my 10k.
When I woke up, I still wasn’t sure what I was going to eat pre-10k race. Really smart, I know. I stood in front of the pantry and looked around my shelf to see what I had. I saw several Kind bars that I had grabbed on my last business trip (free bars yo!), and was almost convinced that I was going to have one, as I thought it’d be great fuel, since it was mostly carbs and a little fat. Then I saw the Steve’s PaleoKrunch granola that I had purchased at the CrossFit Regionals way back yonder. This was high in carbs around 33ish grams, and I KNEW this was the winner. Again, really smart eating something I have never eaten before, but so is life. I ate about 3/4 of this pouch, and it was enough to keep me satisfied and allowed me to do really well on my run.
I finished the race around 10:05, and I honestly wasn’t even hungry after it. By the time I dropped Jaime off and made it home around 10:45, I was starting to get hungry, so I heated up the meal that I had brought to the race with me. 4 oz shredded chicken + 1/2 cup white rice + 1 tbsp liquid aminos.
I was still quite hungry after, so for the road I topped a rice cake with 2 tbsp chocolate PB2. I was praying that this would keep me full until The Best of Me ended. I wanted to be hungry for fro-yo. It worked!
By the time that The Best of Me ended and we were in the parking lot, I was ready for that fro-yo that I had dreamed about and ran for. Half was mint cookies & cream, and the half was caramel apple (O.M.G!). Topped with crushed oreos, cookie dough bites, brownie bites, crushed Butterfinger, butterscotch chips, candy corn, Reese’s, and whipped cream. SO good! I really need to go back for more of the caramel apple fro-yo.
I was so surprised that I wasn’t a bottomless pit, seeing as how last week when I ran 4.35 miles, I couldn’t stop eating all day. Around 6:20, I paused 27 Dresses and forced myself to eat dinner. I really wanted to eat rice cakes with pb on it… like just binge eat while watching tv mindlessly, but when I saw the last container of prepped turkey zoodles, I wanted to fuel my body and choose the healthy option. I topped it with a lot of parmesan because whatever. Life is short. Plus, once a week my macro coach makes me have a high carb day, so I get about 100 extra grams of carbs than I typically am allotted, and my protein and fat is decreased by 5-10 grams, so today was about carbs and not tracking my macros.
I knew that I should get more protein in since I really only had protein in lunch and dinner, so I enjoyed a protein shake made with chocolate protein and almond milk. Delish! I had half around 6:20 and finished the other half about an hour later.
I got just a little bit hungry, and figured again, probably should put a little bit more food in my body. Okay, I probably didn’t really need to eat this, but I am being honest here. Cookies & Cream Quest Bar. Oh, that and this candy corn Hershey’s white chocolate bar that I received after donating $3 to a girl’s DC school trip fundraiser.
Do you look forward to eating a certain meal after a longer race?
